Over the years I have taken many photographs of the views of the open fields surrounding my home. I intend to use these pictures as inspiration for my 2009 Journal Quilts.
This year the quilts must all be 12” x 6”.
The inspiration for my first four Journal quilts is the view from our bedroom window, over the fields.
The tree was drawn onto white polycotton, using Litho Coal. It was then machine and hand quilted.
The background sunset was screen printed onto white cotton. I laid a sheer over the top, and then appliquéd painted willow leaves.
The background is made from a variety of white fabrics, which are quilted down using a preset decorative machine stitch. The tree is free machined, raw edged appliqué.
The sunset is painted. Wybunbury Church is raw edged appliqué and the willow branches are free machined.
Inspired by the lilac blooms in Spring, this quilt is raw edged appliqué and free machine quilting.
This is a more abstract version of the lilac, using appliqué and machine quilting.
This quilt was inspired by a dramatic sunset. It consists of a collage of torn newsprint which was laminated, backed with felt and machine quilted.
Inspired by another sunset, this quilt is strip patchwork, cut-back appliqué and free machine quilting.
